The focus of the distance learning courses support law enforcement, community awareness and anti-drug campaigns. Distance learning courses are provided via satellite (C-band or KU-band), fiberoptics and digital communications. Online Hate Crime Training Course 1-334-956-8200 hatecrimetraining@splcenter.org California State University, San Bernardino’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, in cooperation with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), are offering a new approach to hate crime training - an online program that offers law enforcement officers college and continuing education credit, as well as FLETC recognition. The Hate and Bias Crimes curriculum consists of two courses: a one quarter hour introductory class, and a two quarter hour advanced course for those who have completed the introductory course. Participants who successfully complete course requirements will receive both undergraduate academic credit and Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit. Each quarter hour is equivalent to one CEU. California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Completion of the course also earns a certificate from FLETC. The course was developed with the assistance of an International Advisory Board of law enforcement officers with decades of experience in providing hate and bias crimes training. A computer with internet access is required. Students must log into the course site by July 1, 2004, and complete all work by September 1, 2004. Registration fees are US$145 per credit hour, which must be received with the registration form and before the deadline date in order for a student to be officially enrolled and sent course access information. The Southern Poverty Law Center will provide 50% scholarships for a select number of qualified law enforcement officers who enroll in the course. To be eligible for a scholarship, an officer must submit (1) a letter from his or her supervisor, indicating that the agency is interested in having the officer take the online course and (2) a completed copy of the CSUSB registration form.
